Charlie Paris Concordia GMT: Enhanced Features and Affordability
Charlie Paris has once again demonstrated its commitment to innovation and value by thoroughly upgrading its Concordia GMT series. This latest iteration brings a fresh aesthetic with diverse dial options, redesigned circular hour markers, and a more discreet date display. Crucially, the integration of the reliable Japanese Seiko NH34 movement allows the brand to offer this adventure-ready timepiece at a substantially reduced cost, enhancing its appeal to a broader audience of watch enthusiasts.
The core essence of the Concordia GMT, its blend of robust dive watch capabilities with a practical GMT function, remains unchanged. Designed for adventurers and global travelers, it continues to offer tracking of a second time zone via an independently adjustable central 24-hour hand, often referred to as an "office GMT." The physical dimensions have been subtly refined, with the case now measuring 40.5mm in diameter and 11.75mm in thickness (excluding the crystal), a slight reduction from its predecessor's 40mm and 12.5mm, while maintaining a comfortable 47.5mm lug-to-lug distance. This ensures a balanced presence on the wrist without compromising its sporty appeal.
Further enhancements include a transition to a double-domed sapphire crystal, replacing the previous single-domed version, which improves clarity and scratch resistance. The case back now features a flat sapphire exhibition window, allowing a view of the automatic movement. Water resistance is maintained at an impressive 300 meters, reinforcing its dive watch credentials. The unidirectional rotating bezel, equipped with an anodized aluminum insert and a 60-minute scale, provides essential dive timing functionality, complemented by a luminous pip at 12 o'clock for low-light visibility.
A notable aspect of this refresh is the expanded range of dial colors and finishes, offering greater personalization. Choices include a textured snow-white 'Tundra' dial, a straightforward 'Antarctic Blue,' and a classic 'Black' variant, all with sandblasted finishes. Additionally, 'Burgundy' features a smoked finish with a sandy texture, and 'Sage' offers a smoked green with a brushed effect. Each dial incorporates a distinctive two-tone flange with a 24-hour scale, facilitating easy tracking of the second time zone and providing a day/night indication. The color combinations of these flanges are thoughtfully coordinated with each dial, for instance, black and white for 'Tundra,' and dark green and mint green for 'Sage,' adding to the visual appeal.
The most significant change, however, is the shift in movement from the Swiss Soprod C125 to the Japanese-made Seiko NH34. This automatic GMT movement is widely recognized for its reliability and cost-effectiveness, operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offering a 41-hour power reserve. This strategic change in movement is the primary factor enabling Charlie Paris to offer the updated Concordia GMT at a considerably more attractive price point. Starting at EUR 645 on a strap and EUR 695 with a steel bracelet, this represents a substantial reduction from the previous model's starting price of EUR 1,195, making high-quality GMT functionality more attainable than ever.
The redesigned Charlie Paris Concordia GMT represents a thoughtful evolution, combining improved aesthetics and functionality with an unprecedented level of affordability. By carefully considering both design elements and component sourcing, the brand has successfully created a compelling proposition for those seeking a versatile and robust timepiece without a premium price tag.
