Pandora Inaugurates World's Largest Fine Jewelry Manufacturing Facility in Vietnam
Danish jewelry giant Pandora has officially opened its new $150 million manufacturing hub in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This colossal facility, spanning an impressive 18.5 acres, is now recognized as the world's largest fine jewelry crafting site, poised to dramatically expand Pandora's production capabilities and reinforce its commitment to sustainable practices. The move underscores the company's long-term vision for global manufacturing.
Details of Pandora's Vietnamese Manufacturing Expansion
The newly constructed factory in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, represents a significant investment by Pandora, costing an estimated $150 million. This expansive facility, covering 18.5 acres, is designed to become the largest fine jewelry crafting operation globally. Upon reaching its full operational capacity, the plant is projected to produce up to 60 million jewelry pieces annually, which will augment Pandora's total manufacturing output by approximately 50%. Berta de Pablos-Barbier, Pandora's CEO, indicated that the factory would initially contribute about 15% of the company's worldwide production, with plans to escalate this figure to a third by 2030. This expansion is substantial, considering Pandora's sales of 112 million units in 2025.
The workforce at the new plant began with 700 skilled craftspeople and is expected to grow to 1,000 by the end of the current year, ultimately reaching a total of 7,000 employees. To ensure high-quality production, Pandora facilitated the transfer of 25 experienced crafters from its Thai operations to train the new Vietnamese hires. The comprehensive training program for a multi-skilled craftsperson can extend up to six months. Initially, the factory's production will concentrate on gold-plated jewelry items.
Addressing potential concerns regarding geopolitical trade uncertainties, particularly the possibility of increased U.S. tariffs on Vietnamese-made goods, de Pablos-Barbier affirmed Pandora's long-term strategic perspective, stating, "We’re building this facility for the next decade, not the next quarter." The United States remains Pandora's largest consumer market. Emphasizing its dedication to environmental responsibility, the new facility is LEED Gold-certified, meaning it adheres to stringent green building standards. It operates exclusively on renewable electricity and utilizes only recycled silver and gold in its manufacturing processes. This Vietnamese plant joins Pandora's existing three factories located in Thailand, further strengthening its Asian production footprint.
This strategic expansion by Pandora illustrates a bold commitment to both growth and sustainability within the fine jewelry sector. By establishing such a significant presence in Vietnam, the company is not only increasing its production capacity but also creating thousands of employment opportunities and setting a high standard for environmentally conscious manufacturing. It highlights the importance of strategic foresight in navigating global economic landscapes and the increasing consumer demand for ethically produced goods.
