Patek Philippe Unveils New Gondolo Ladies First Collection, Merging Art Deco with Opulent Gemstone Embellishments

October 09

Patek Philippe's latest Gondolo Ladies First collection introduces six exquisite models that pay homage to the brand's rich heritage in women's watchmaking. These new timepieces reinterpret the iconic 2009 Ladies First Chronograph, blending Art Deco aesthetics with a strong emphasis on jewelry, vibrant colors, and diverse materials. They offer a fresh perspective on feminine luxury, prioritizing elegance and intricate design, while featuring a highly accurate quartz movement.

Patek Philippe's Dazzling New Gondolo Ladies First Collection

At the prestigious Watch Art Grand Exhibition in Milan, Patek Philippe unveiled its enchanting new Gondolo Ladies First collection, comprising six distinct models. These sophisticated timepieces, inspired by the brand's influential 2009 Ladies First Chronograph Ref. 7071, signify a contemporary evolution in women's luxury watches. While the 2009 predecessor was celebrated for its innovative mechanical movement in a ladies' design, the new Gondolo Ladies First series (Ref. 7043) shifts its focus to opulent jewelry artistry and a vibrant array of colors and precious materials.

Each of the six models features a gracefully contoured, cushion-shaped case, measuring a refined 31 x 34.8mm with a sleek 8.03mm thickness. Crafted from rose gold, white gold, or a striking combination of both, these cases provide a luxurious canvas. Three versions showcase elegant diamond-set dials, while the three Gondolo Ladies First Joaillerie models elevate the embellishment, extending intricate gem settings across the dial, case, and lugs. This design choice underscores Patek Philippe's commitment to creating watches that are both exceptional timepieces and exquisite jewelry.

The collection's design language is deeply rooted in the geometric elegance of the Art Deco era, characterized by clean lines, harmonious proportions, and distinctive forms. The initial trio of references pairs a polished gold case with an opaline dial, adorned with an embossed concentric wave pattern. A subtle, recessed flange glitters with 108 meticulously set diamonds. Faceted, trapezoidal gold hour markers are complemented by delicate gold cabochons serving as minute indicators, all brought to life by graceful leaf-shaped hands. Each version boasts a unique color combination: the white-gold Ref. 7043G features a sophisticated blue-gray opaline dial and a coordinating denim-textured calfskin strap; the rose-gold Ref. 7043R sports a rich chestnut-brown opaline dial with a matching calfskin strap; and the two-tone Ref. 7043GR marries a white-gold case with rose-gold accents, a shimmering silvery opaline dial, and a chic beige textured calfskin strap.

For those seeking even greater extravagance, the three Gondolo Ladies First Joaillerie references are a symphony of brilliance. Each watch is meticulously set with a total of 687 brilliant-cut diamonds. The case alone sparkles with 253 diamonds, while an additional 411 stones illuminate the dial and its diamond-encrusted flange. The buckle, not to be outdone, features 23 more diamonds. At the heart of each dial, 303 diamonds are artfully arranged in seven concentric rows, with their sizes carefully graded to accentuate the circular design against the gold backdrop.

Adding a captivating splash of color, the twelve trapeze-cut hour markers are crafted from vibrant gemstones. The white-gold Ref. 7043/250G-001 incorporates luminous blue topaz, harmoniously paired with a peacock-blue alligator strap. The rose-gold Ref. 7043/250R-001 dazzles with vivid green tsavorites and a matching green strap, while the two-tone Ref. 7043/250GR-001 combines regal purple amethysts with a rich purple alligator strap. These colored hour markers are nestled within gold settings designed to maximize the interplay of light with each gemstone. Complementary colored treatments are applied to the elegant leaf-shaped white-gold hands, creating a cohesive and breathtaking aesthetic.

Powering all six models is Patek Philippe's Caliber E15, a meticulously engineered quartz movement. Measuring a mere 15 x 13mm and 1.8mm thin, this movement consists of 57 components, including six jewels, and operates at a precise quartz frequency of 32,768 Hz. Patek Philippe asserts that the E15 adheres to the same exacting standards as its mechanical movements, with 80% of its components produced using techniques identical to those for its hand-wound and automatic calibers, ensuring exceptional quality and reliability. All watches boast a water resistance of 30 meters and feature solid case backs. Prices for the diamond-set dial models begin at $37,510, while the more lavish Gondolo Ladies First Joaillerie iterations are priced at $68,768. This collection joins two existing Haute Joaillerie Gondolo models, introduced in 2016, which feature a stunning combination of 552 brilliant- and baguette-cut diamonds alongside bracelets adorned with Akoya pearls and additional diamonds.

This new collection from Patek Philippe signifies a continued dedication to crafting exquisite timepieces for women that transcend mere functionality to become wearable works of art. The blend of intricate gem-setting, vibrant colors, and classic Art Deco inspiration offers a compelling choice for discerning collectors. It also highlights the brand's versatility in creating both mechanically complex and exquisitely jeweled watches, maintaining its reputation for unparalleled craftsmanship and timeless elegance.
