RZE Unveils UTD-8080 Featuring Proprietary Digital Module and Upgrade Option
RZE is advancing its UltraHex Titanium Digital (UTD) platform with the debut of the UTD-8080, a timepiece that integrates the brand's inaugural in-house developed digital module, the RZE-8080. This innovation not only introduces new functionalities and a superior display but also highlights RZE's commitment to supporting its existing customer base by offering an upgrade option for previous UTD-8000 models, ensuring longevity and technological relevance for their watches.
The RZE-8080 module represents a significant leap forward for the Singapore-based company, moving beyond the customization of off-the-shelf components to developing its own core technology. This strategic shift grants RZE greater control over its digital watch ecosystem, fostering adaptability for future models and potential collaborations within the horological industry. The module's robust feature set includes dual time display, multiple alarms, a countdown timer, a 1/100th-second stopwatch, a full auto calendar extending to 2099, and an UltraGlow backlight. Rigorous testing has been conducted to ensure the module's resilience against extreme temperatures, shocks, vibrations, and high-altitude drops, underscoring its durability for outdoor enthusiasts. Furthermore, the incorporation of FSTN (Film-Compensated Super-Twisted Nematic) LCD technology provides a higher contrast and improved readability from various viewing angles, enhancing the user experience.
A notable aspect of this launch is RZE's forward-thinking approach to product lifecycle management. Recognizing the investment their customers make, the brand offers a unique upgrade program. Owners of the earlier UTD-8000 can have their existing modules replaced with the new RZE-8080 for a nominal fee of US$100. This initiative allows for new features without requiring a full watch replacement, exemplifying a customer-centric design philosophy. The upgrade service is slated to commence in January 2027, with service centers available in Canada, the US, the UK, and Singapore, and includes return shipping.
The UTD-8080 series kicks off with the UTD-8080-ST, nicknamed “Stormtrooper,” which showcases a white Cerakote-treated case elegantly contrasted with black accents. This model retains the lightweight characteristics of the UTD platform. Standard versions of the UTD-8080 will feature a Grade 2 titanium case with RZE's proprietary UltraHex surface treatment, measuring 42mm in diameter, 43mm across the bezel, with a lug-to-lug distance of 49.5mm, and a thickness of 13.4mm. Weighing a mere 51.9 grams, these watches are water-resistant up to 200 meters and protected by a sapphire crystal with Super AR coating on the underside. Powering these timepieces is a CR2032 battery, offering an expected lifespan exceeding three years. The UTD-8080-ST will be available for US$399, with deliveries beginning in November 2026, followed by additional UltraHex titanium variations priced at US$299, shipping from March 2027.
The introduction of the UTD-8080, with its proprietary digital module and thoughtful upgrade path, signifies a pivotal moment for RZE. By taking ownership of its digital technology, the brand solidifies its foundation for future product evolution and potential partnerships, while also demonstrating a strong commitment to its customer community by offering a sustainable and innovative path for watch ownership.
