Speake Marin Introduces Ripples Portobello with Lavender Dial

July 13

Speake Marin has unveiled a new addition to its distinguished Ripples series, the Portobello, which takes its design cues from the lively and diverse Portobello district of London. This latest iteration, introduced as a luxurious sports timepiece, continues the brand's tradition of unique design with its signature rounded-square La City case and a captivating textured dial. The Portobello model stands out with its innovative use of a lavender hue, which adorns both the dial and the accompanying strap, infusing a vibrant and eclectic spirit into the collection.

The watch's construction features a robust stainless steel La City case, meticulously crafted from 40 individual components. Measuring 40.3mm in diameter and 9.2mm in thickness, the case showcases a sophisticated interplay of satin-brushed and polished finishes, complemented by prominent crown guards and sapphire crystals on both the front and back. The dial, made of brass, boasts the collection's characteristic 12 horizontal ripples, meticulously engraved and hand-finished, over which a translucent lavender lacquer is applied. This technique allows the dial's color to subtly shift from a delicate pale to a deeper purple, reflecting the ambient light. The display is further enhanced by faceted rhodium-plated baton indices and the brand's iconic hands, with a distinctive small seconds sub-dial positioned at 1:30.

At the heart of the Ripples Portobello lies the in-house developed automatic calibre SMA03-T, produced by Speake Marin's manufacture, Le Cercle des Horlogers. This movement, measuring 30mm in diameter and 3.9mm thick, is distinguished by its fully integrated tungsten micro-rotor, which contributes to the watch's slim profile. Comprising 144 components and operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it offers a reliable 52-hour power reserve. The movement's exquisite finishing, including circular-grained mainplates, rhodium-plated bridges with Côtes de Genève, and hand-polished bevels, is visible through the sapphire caseback. The lavender theme is completed by a matching calfskin strap, featuring an embossed denim pattern and tone-on-tone stitching, secured by a stainless steel folding clasp. This new model is available immediately, priced at CHF 22,900 before taxes.

This latest offering from Speake Marin beautifully encapsulates the essence of creativity and precision in watchmaking. The Ripples Portobello, with its unique color palette and sophisticated mechanics, serves as a testament to the brand's commitment to pushing aesthetic boundaries while maintaining exceptional craftsmanship. It reminds us that true artistry lies in the harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, yielding creations that not only tell time but also tell a story, inspiring admiration and a deeper appreciation for the intricate world of horology.
