Timeless Elegance: The Resurgence of Classic Solitaire Engagement Rings

October 14

A new report from Jewelers Mutual indicates a clear trend towards traditional engagement ring aesthetics. The study, surveying 2,000 recently engaged or married individuals, highlights that classic designs and distinctiveness remain primary factors, surpassing considerations like cost, stone dimensions, or brand recognition. This shift underscores a growing appreciation for timeless beauty in engagement jewelry.

The research points to a notable increase in the demand for solitaire settings, which now constitute 37% of all engagement rings, a substantial rise from 22% in 2024. White gold continues its dominance as the preferred metal, chosen by 43% of participants, up from 35% two years prior. Additionally, platinum's appeal has also seen an uptick, reinforcing the preference for durable and classic materials.

Beyond style, consumers are engaging in more thorough preparation before their purchase. A significant 38% of those surveyed began their ring research at least three months beforehand, a considerable increase from 13% in 2024. This diligent approach extends to influence, with friends and family playing a more crucial role in ring style decisions than online platforms or celebrity endorsements, suggesting a preference for trusted, personal advice. The decision-making process is also becoming more collaborative, with 22% of buyers reporting a joint selection of the final ring, even as surprise proposals remain prevalent.

Engagement rings, once acquired, are cherished and frequently worn. Half of the respondents reported wearing their ring daily, and an additional 35% wear it several times a week. These rings accompany wearers to work, social gatherings, on errands, and at home, with 90% even traveling with their precious symbols of commitment. The study, conducted in May 2026, gathered insights from U.S. adults who had either purchased or received an engagement ring within the preceding five years, offering a comprehensive view of contemporary engagement ring customs and preferences.
